[ one day aoba was like, 'let's go to the pet store' and clear was like 'i've never been to a pet store before!' so here they were, standing right outside the window of a pet store with clear's hands and face smushed up against the glass, trying to get the attention of the world's tiniest kitten. there could have been flowers floating around his head with how charmed he is. ]
I've always thought Ren-san was the fluffiest, but the ones here are very fluffy too! Do you think I can take one home?

[ while aoba's never lacked for a pet, considering ren's constant companionship throughout the years, he still enjoys peering intently at the window of the single pet store in midorijima whenever he passes by. there's something about the awkward gawkiness of the puppies or kittens on display, either napping or running around on too large paws... well, he can't completely explain it.
it's the reason why they've detoured here today, anyway. standing next to clear, aoba's waving one hand in front of the glass in a dual attempt to get the kitten to notice them. ]

[ he'd never entertained the thought of having a pet before, but he's always imagined that it would be nice. to be able to take care of someone, to protect them, just like his grandpa did for him. ]

[ shifting around to look at clear, he frowns, trying to decide how to put it. he's aware that while it might be easy enough to go in and buy a kitten, it's an entirely different thing altogether to take care of it. ]
They usually sell them, so you can't get one for free. Plus taking care of one's a big responsibility.

[ he looks at aoba, thinking over his response. ]
... Yes. But being able to take care of a pet, or a person is also a privilege too, isn't it? To be able to care for someone important to you, to be able to show them that you love them. Sometimes we might not have the chance to do that before they're gone.

but like clear said, it's important to seize the opportunity to show how much you care before they're gone.
aoba realises he's been staring, and he looks away with a sheepish laugh. his smile at clear is fond, soft around the edges. ]
Jeez, you... but you're not wrong. I guess it's fine if we go in and look at them.

[ and without further ado, he almost dashes into the store, eyes bright with amazement. this is the first time he's ever been surrounded by cute furry things ok, don't judge. ]

[ chasing after him, aoba is hot on his heels and by the time he catches up, the kitten display is up close and personal. he slows down automatically, taking them in. ]
Wow, they have a lot of different kinds, don't they? And they're all so fluffy!
