Someone is not in a good mood.

First and foremost, they are meeting at seven o'clock. There are few numbers worse than seven--but six was too early, and eight was too late, and seven had been the only time they were both sure they could meet and have time to actually talk and catch up between Kid's schedule, and so seven o'clock it was despite how much he abhorred the number.

Then, he was late. For someone as young as he, Kid was inordinately particular about timeliness. Five after seven came and went, then ten after seven, and then fifteen and twenty--and he still hadn't arrived at Anna's home as he'd said he would.

On top of all of that, it had been yet another catastrophic attempt by his father to find Kid a suitable weapon partner. 'You're getting old enough, Kid...' And though his honorable Father never portrayed this reality as something to be addressed urgently, that having a weaponless young soon to be Lord Death at eleven years old was not a crisis, Kid understood that it was at least a little bit of a crisis.

Anyway.

It's seven-thirty-three. And he's here, and that's better than nothing, knocking on the door patiently and tugging at the cuffs of his sleeves beneath his jacket to ensure he looks presentable. He'd stopped to preserve the appearance.

"Anna? I'm so sorry I'm late. It wasn't intentional whatsoever. I was planning to leave on time, and then..."

When the door swings open, Anna will be met with Kid looking up at her, mouth agape midsentence, golden eyes watching her with clear frustration. He looks normal enough, if not a bit frazzled. Right--and that spot of blood on his collar. But mostly, the same as usual if not frustrated at his lack of punctuality. "Father wanted me to meet a new potential weapon partner. I'm so sorry."

Anna is used to waiting, really. For someone so energetic, she's surprisingly patient. Though she does start to worry as the minutes tick by, because this is Kid and he's always punctual, and something must have happened. It couldn't be that he got lost, he knew where the castle was and beyond that it's sort of hard to miss. So what was it?

By the time half an hour has passed and there's still no sign of him, she's biting her thumb nail in worry and pacing the hall, glancing at the clock every other second. It's silly, it's not as if Kid is helpless, he can fend for himself all right. He probably got held up at home for some reason or another. Even though they were friends, and they'd certainly talked about death, she still didn't really understand everything about him. Who he was or who he was going to be, or how that all worked. She was generally okay with not understanding though because she enjoyed being with him, regardless. Except now she can't help but wonder...

When she hears the knock on the door, her eyes widen and she sweeps past any of the servants or guards who may be headed to answer it so she can do so herself. And when she swings the door open, there's a look of relief on her face at seeing her friend. "You made it!"

That lasts maybe about ten seconds before she notices the blood on his collar and freezes. She doesn't stare, though, because she instantly remembers this is Kid and drawing attention to such a thing wouldn't be good, she doesn't want to upset him. At the same time though, she doesn't want him to walk around like that for long because she knows he'll discover it eventually.

It's sort of funny that her first instinct is to be concerned about his reaction to the spot rather than the fact that it's blood. That is her second reaction, though. No one so young should have to deal with blood at all, as far as she's concerned. What he says does explain it, though. A little. No, she still doesn't really understand but she doesn't feel like it would be polite to pester for details or anything. Instead, she pulls the door open further to let him in with a small smile, trying to sort of casually drop in the fact he's got a spot as she speaks.

"It's alright, I knew you wouldn't be late on purpose. Uhm. So I guess any blood you still have on you wouldn't have been there too long, we could probably wash it out fairly easily..." Did that even work? She'd tried.

"What?"

Sometimes Anna confuses him. And by syndromes, Kid means frequently. Before she even began to rattle off her nervous explanation he could sense the disquiet in her soul wavelength. He had been about to ask of she was all right when the comment about blood on him....

Blood? Where?

It isn't that he makes a show so much as the way he checks himself for the offending substance is....well, the gracious thing to call it would be obsessive. It takes a few moments to notice his collar is what she's referring to.

Most telling is that, though he stiffens nervously and makes a beeline for the nearest sink--and he knows where they are now, as he's been several times--it's done without hysterics.

Someone is in a mood.

"Oh. Ah--right. Yes. I'll just...if you don't mind letting me--"

Warm water and a towel and he is scrubbing something fierce. Please come out. Please come out. Please come out--

"H-How have you been?"

Anna follows him quickly as he heads toward the nearest washing room. She stays, rather surprisingly, quiet as she observes him. He's not freaking out, at least not on the outside. But it's easy to tell he's not okay, either. Which is fine, Anna didn't expect he would be okay about that, she had totally expected him to freak out in his usual way. It concerns her more that he doesn't.

"Oh, I've been fine. I had to sit in with Elsa on a meeting with some leaders of the provinces, it was pretty boring, but..." She trails off slightly, tucks a stray strand of hair behind her ear before walking into the room a little further, a little closer. "Are you okay? Did something happen? With that, uh, that... weapons training thing? We can talk about it if you want. Or we don't have to! I mean, you know, whatever you think... Would help..." She trails off again.

Please come out. Out, out, out--he scrubs until the stain dissipates. Anna is talking behind him but he hardly notices, so attentive he is to the task at hand. When he finishes, relief washes over him like a blanket and he sighs.

"Right. You--"

She's staring.

Most people stare, even when his actions are more subdued. They watch the young reaper curiously as he counts and rearranges and scrubs, their gazes unsure. But Anna stares with genuine concern and he can't help but appreciate her kindness.

"A meeting. With Elsa. Provinces?"

He's pointedly dodged her question, instead focusing on her. Discussing another failure might be good for him--he just isn't ready for that yet. "I've attended some meetings with my father to that end. I have to say that I frequently agree with you."

Now that the stain is gone, Anna feels a little better too. At least neither of them have to worry about that anymore. She'll take the towel from him and slip it into the basket by the bathroom door. Hopefully none of the servants will be too shocked at the blood, but it wasn't really very much. Considering some of the shenanigans Anna got up to on her horse and in trees back in the day, they've probably seen worse.

Her relief is visible, tension dropping from her shoulders though her expression, her smile still show her concern. But she lets him drop the subject, unwilling to push too much if he's unready. If his weird attitude persists though, she may ask again. Sometimes there were just things one needed to get off their chest in order to feel better.

"They were talking about taxes and imports and exports, statistics and things... I was pretty lost." She laughs at herself, then gives a small shrug. "I don't think I was really needed there anyway. I made a deal with Elsa. From now on, as long as I can skip out on meetings like that, then I'll do all the dancing with foreign diplomats at parties that she wants me to."
